I'm going to share with you my weight loss journey, which started on Dec. 30, 2003 (my New Year's resolution).
I am on Weight Watchers Flexi-point plan, which for me is by far the best solution. It's the easiest plan for me to stick to. I also plan to include an exercise journal and more photos as I go along so you can see whether I am making progress or not. For the record, I am 53 years old, 5'9" tall and my ultimate weight goal (for now) is 150 lbs. My starting weight was 309 lbs fully dressed (according to the WW scale). The first photos here were taken after an approximate 10 lb weight loss. Exercise For starters, I'm riding my recumbent exercise bike. I have to be careful even though the bike is low-impact because I have arthritis in my left hip, which gets aggravated. So for now I'm riding 20 minutes every other day. Hopefully once I get more weight off, the stress on my hip won't be so much. Jan. 27, 2004: I have started exercising again but this time I'm foregoing the bike in favor of a workout video. The one I'm using is a great low-impact tape that I'm sure many of you are familiar with: "Sweatin' to the Oldies" by Richard Simmons. Richard may be a pretty odd little guy but I really get the feeling from him (even on more recent tv appearances) that he really does CARE. A few years back, when I lived in Los Angeles, I emailed his exercise studio just to find out if Richard still conducted classes there. They said he did on Wednesdays and if I wanted, I could come to a class for free. I didn't work up the nerve to do it (traffic was murder and I was afraid of highway driving then), but I wish I had gone now. March 26, 2004: It's been awhile since I've made an entry in this area. Check my blog and the journal on the left margin for more recent stuff. I will say today that exercise continues to be my bugaboo. I've switched from the videos to a treadmill but problems with my feet and back took me off the treadmill. It's frustrating. I did go for a couple walks this week but it looks like I'm going to be trying to figure this out for awhile. Keep checking back here to check on my progress. Hopefully as I put in more and more weekly reports, there will be less and less "canned" content and more personal insights I can share with you. In the meantime, please be sure to check my web journal (link in the left margin) for some personal feelings and observations as I travel down this path. |
